Ahmad is an experienced zoologist and joined Nature Advisory (formerly Brett Lane and Associates) in 2017. Based in Armidale in New South Wales, Ahmad regularly undertakes environmental impact surveys for wind farms in north east NSW. These activities include planning, conducting field surveys and report writing.
Ahmad recently completed a PhD in Zoology at the University of New England, with a major focus on the understanding of the behaviour and ecology of Australian birds. More specifically, his research was focused on the behavioural ecology of the Australian Noisy Miner and involved extensive field and laboratory work, from animal surveys, live trapping, banding, blood sampling to behavioural observations. The project involved extensive fieldwork in the New England and Northern Tableland region over four years. Before his recent studies, Ahmad had over eight years of experience in animal survey, bird watching, report writing for environmental organisations and was involved in many projects as principal investigator or assistant. Most of these projects involved bird and mammal observation and identifications.
Ahmad also has extensive experience in laboratory works including DNA extraction, PCR, endocrinology, bioacoustics analysis and statistical analysis. He has published over 25 scientific papers in the field of ornithology, behavioural ecology and general ecology, most of them published in international journals.
