Nature Positive Services

As awareness of societies impacts on nature grows, companies are increasingly under pressure from investors, societal expectations, and consumers to contribute toward global goals to restore nature, help to stabilise our climate, and achieve a sustainable and liveable future for all.

We believe that companies that act quickly to get ahead of this, and who model their practices around sustainability and Nature Positive, will realise a competitive advantage. 

Nature Positive means doing more than the old ‘minimise and offset’ mentality when it comes to impacts on nature, to actively contribute to its restoration, and to leave nature in a better state than it was found. It is also about recognising the true value of nature, and the benefits that we get from nature through ecosystem services.

These include but are not limited to: clean air and water, climate and urban heat regulation, reducing flood risk, aesthetic value and placemaking, and health and wellbeing through access to nature. 

How we can support you: 

• Integrating nature into the built environment – We can provide bespoke design advice to deliver good green infrastructure on development sites which benefit biodiversity, and optimise ecosystem services to benefit the people using the site. This can also help to provide good public relations, and even attract a price premium for property sales.

• Natural Capital Assessment – This is a growing space in Australia, but there are a growing number of tools which we can use to evaluate the benefits from ecosystem services that a site can achieve, including in a monetary sense. 

• Green Infrastructure Audit – We can survey, map and assess the green infrastructure within a given area (e.g. a local council, or business improvement district), helping to outline the benefits it provides, and identify opportunities for improvements. This is a useful tool for strategic improvement of green infrastructure to optimise ecosystem services. 

• Nature-based solutions – These are measures which address societal challenges through actions which protect and restore ecosystems, and which benefit communities, economies and the environment. We can provide ecological expert advice to get the most out of, for example WSUD wetlands, or provide strategies for renewable projects to contribute positively to biodiversity in their local area. 

• Climate Change Adaptation – We can provide advice to help ensure developments are prepared for the effects of climate change through resilient green infrastructure & landscaping schemes, and through adaptive management plans. This can help to ensure that the benefits of green infrastructure continue within a changing environment.
