Kitty is a super-sniffer with a purpose! As one of only a handful of specially trained carcass detection dogs in Australia, she plays an important role in helping protect our native birds and bats around wind farms.

Trained by legendary dog trainer Steve Austin, Kitty uses her incredible nose to find bird and bat remains beneath wind turbines; something she does far more accurately than humans. She’s certified by the Canine Detection Certification of Australia and has a knack for ignoring distractions (even tempting ones!) to focus on her target.

But Kitty’s talents don’t stop there. She can also sniff out rare plants to help with flora surveys, and thanks to her snake avoidance training, she knows how to keep herself safe in the field.

With her wagging tail, sharp mind, and endless enthusiasm, Kitty is not only a vital part of wildlife monitoring programs, but she’s also a favourite among field teams and landowners alike. Whether she’s bounding through grassy paddocks or expertly tracking a scent, Kitty proves every day that working dogs can be both professional and adorable.
