Khalid is a Ornithologist and Field Ecologist. He has over 25 years’ experience in ecology, specialising in ornithology and animal ecology, with extensive experience in the field of ecological impact assessment of wind farms on native fauna, particularly on birds and bats. Khalid also has extensive knowledge of methods used for estimation of birds and bat mortality caused by wind farms.
Since joining Nature Advisory (formerly Brett Lane and Associates) in 2001 as one of the company’s first employees, Khalid has used his wide ecological and ornithological skills to conduct work on over 65 wind farm projects throughout most Australian states. His experience on wind farm sites includes evaluation of the fauna and their habitats in areas of proposed works, detailed studies of the impacts on avifauna (i.e. bird utilisation studies), bat surveys, estimation of bird and bat mortality rates caused by operation, ecological studies of targeted fauna species, as well as the preparation of environmental management plans and mitigation recommendations for numerous windfarm projects.
