With our increasing focus on ecological services to the wind energy industry in all Australian states, we are seeking a Senior Manager and Team Leader- Zoology for our team of over 35 zoologists based around Australia.   

 

About the role

 

The Zoology Team Leader will lead and manage a dynamic team of zoologists and researchers, ensuring the successful execution of projects related to assessing, monitoring and mitigating the impacts on developments, particularly renewable energy projects, on species and ecosystems. This is a continuing, full-time position with the company at its Hawthorn East office in Melbourne.

This is a leadership position responsible for technical quality, and the growth and mentoring of our teams of zoologists across Australia.  You will supervise key team members, mentor and train team members, co-ordinate research and innovation, and guide the deployment of new technology. The successful applicant for this role must understand knowledge management and data management systems and demonstrate strong project management skills.

The role will aim to deliver consistency in the technical design and delivery of bird, bat and other fauna studies at wind farms and other development project sites across Australia.  

Your strong management skills will assist you to support state zoology team leaders to guide the professional development of teams and  innovation in our technical approaches, particularly in the renewable energy area. 

We are seeking an energetic and collaborative Team Leader who will:

  • Work with and mentor an enthusiastic, focused and knowledgeable team of highly skilled zoologists;  
  • Lead and encourage an engaged, innovative and create workplace; 
  • Use their technical and consulting experience to guide teams to deliver development outcomes that avoid and minimise impacts on biodiversity.;
  • Apply their extensive consulting experience to provide sound regulatory advice about biodiversity to our team and our clients.

 

The role will include:

 

  • Team building to support wind energy ecological assessments in all states in Australia;
  • Driving robust and consistent data management, data interpretation and reporting; 
  • Preparing and reviewing reports that inform the assessment and approval process for developments through local, state and federal government agencies

Key Selection Criteria:

 

Education:

 

  • A Master’s degree or higher in Zoology, Ecology, Biology, or a related field.
  • Ornithology experience and / or knowledge 

 

Experience:

 

  • At least 6 years of experience in zoological research, including leadership or team management experience, ideally in a consulting environment
  • Proven experience in leading and managing teams
  • Proven experience in fieldwork, animal care, and conservation efforts
  • Strong track record of leading research projects and complex impact assessment projects

 

Skills:

 

  • Comprehensive zoological field experience
  • In-depth knowledge of zoological field practices and conservation principles
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in data collection and interpretation
  • Familiarity with research software, data management systems, and GIS tools
  • High quality reporting skills
  • Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or in collaboration with other team members
