Bernard O’Callaghan is an environmental and climate change leader, technical expert, policy and program implementation professional.

Bernard has significant expertise in biodiversity and climate change, with a focus on biodiversity and coastal, wetlands and uplands management with government, NGOs and environmental agencies and organisations for more than 25 countries across the Asia Pacific region. His experience with multi-lateral development agencies has included United Nations Development Program, World Bank, Asian Development Bank and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Bernard has been with Nature Advisory in Australia since 2015.

After a few years at the Victorian Institute of Marine Science, Bernard spent 25 years working internationally and has developed a strong understanding of biodiversity conservation and the challenge of adapting to climate change threats in coastal and wetland regions. With the aim of building resilient communities to support and enable resilient economies, he has facilitated novel approaches to engaging and empowering communities and the private sector to partner as environmental custodians that respect and manage our natural assets.

At Nature Advisory since 2015 Bernard has focused on wind farms with a focus on planning, collision risk assessment, permitting and the development and implementation of bird and bat management plans. Highly strategic, Bernard is known for achieving results for his clients and maintains a clear focus on ecologically sustainable development.

Born in Yallourn in the Latrobe Valley, Bernard is passionate about biodiversity conservation since growing up on the Warrnambool beach!
