Senior Ecologist – Team Leader NSW

Gavin is a senior ecologist and team leader for NSW and ACT. He has over with over 20 years’ experience in consulting, research and ecological restoration. During his career as a consultant, he has had the opportunity to work Australia-wide. He joined Nature Advisory in 2020 as a Senior Zoologist and has recently taken up the position of Senior Ecologist and Team Leader to support the growth of the organisation in NSW and the ACT. Gavin is based in Sydney.  

 

Gavin has had a life-long interest in ornithology, botany, and geology and has travelled extensively throughout Australia. He has extensive knowledge of Australian birds and worked on survey and conservation projects related to birds from Tasmania to the Wet Tropics. He has undertaken targeted surveys for a variety of threatened animals across Australia including Gouldian Finch, Coxen’s Fig Parrot, Powerful Owl, Swift Parrot, White-throated Needletail, migratory shorebirds, Koala, Tiger Quoll, Striped Legless Lizard, Great Desert Skink and Growling Grass Frog amongst others!   

 

Gavin finds great appreciation in all things related to the natural world and spends every opportunity exploring new places. Whether it’s searching for the elusive Ground Parrot or finding terrestrial orchids in a piece of remote woodland he is always amazed by the beauty and uniqueness of the Australian environment. He finds great joy in passing on his knowledge and educating others to understand and interpret the natural world, especially in such a unique place as Australia.
