Zoologist | Casual

Victoria – Warrnambool, Port Fairy or broader Western Victoria region

Nature Advisory is a team of consultants working in the specialised area of flora, fauna and native vegetation. We help our clients to meet the expectations of decision-makers by doing technically robust studies that inform ecologically sustainable outcomes. We are one of Australia’s leading wind farm bird and bat impact assessment consultants working on a variety of projects throughout southern and eastern Australia.

We specialise in pre-construction and operational ecological impact assessments, identifying relevant issues, implementing appropriate monitoring, and creating workable alternatives to avoid, minimise and mitigate impacts on bird and bats. We also have expertise in operational monitoring, implementing routine surveys, responding to impacts upon threatened species and undertaking targeted surveys. The renewable energy industry is a rapidly growing sector in Australia where we, as environmental consultants, can have a major influence by informing key environmental decisions based on scientific data during the planning phase of a development.

We are seeking a Casual Zoologist who is based in Western Victoria to undertake field investigations at wind farms sites throughout that region. The work will involve implementation of bird surveys, bat studies, and mortality monitoring at proposed and operational wind farm sites, data collation, analysis and report writing.

The successful candidate will have a degree in ecology, preferably in zoology, and enjoy working in the field. Bird identification skills are favourable but not compulsory.

The position provides an excellent opportunity to join a diverse and friendly team of ecologists committed to a high standard of technical work and client service. The position may suit someone further developing their zoological skills and interested in casual work. There may be periods when field trips involve an entire week away from home.

The selected candidate will have

· Demonstrated experience in general fauna surveys;

· Graduate qualifications in ecology with a specialisation in zoology;

· A current driver’s license; and

· 4WD competency will be favourably regarded.
